Roadworks to cause more traffic disruption on city’s streets

Partial closure: The section of Rowe St that will be closed to traffic until Friday, February 24 for works to be undertaken.

Greater Shepparton City Council says a number of streets in the city will be impacted by roadworks in the coming weeks.

Rowe St in Shepparton will be partially closed from west of the car park at Archer St, to Dudley St until Friday, February 24.

The street will be closed to all pedestrian and vehicle traffic, except Woolworths deliveries.

The Rowe St car park will remain open during the works, with entry and exit off Archer St.

Council said residents and visitors should obey all roadwork and advisory signage, including any workers’ directions, for their safety and the safety of others.

Motorists are encouraged to use other routes where possible.

Balaclava Rd and Gilchrist St works

Meanwhile, council also advises that asphalt surfacing works are scheduled for Balaclava Rd and Gilchrist St in Shepparton.

The Balaclava Rd works are due to commence on Monday, February 13, with completion expected by Saturday, February 18, weather permitting.

The works area will be under traffic control and partial road closure daily between 7am and 7pm.

During construction, temporary road closures will be in place for King St, Fahey St, Gowrie St and Newton St.

Council said local residents living in the area would have access to their properties, with delays expected during construction.

Gilchrist St (between Watson St and Callister St) works are due to commence on Saturday, February 18, with completion expected by Sunday, February 19, weather permitting.

Echuca Rd shared path works

In Mooroopna, the council has advised that works on stage three of the Echuca Rd shared path have commenced.

The works are an outcome of the Greater Shepparton Cycling Strategy, which provides direction on the construction of recreational paths, commuter cycling network paths and on-road cycling lanes.

The Echuca Rd shared path construction has been split into four stages, with stage one undertaken in the 2020/2021 financial year, stage two completed in the 2021/2022 financial year and stage three taking place in the 2022/2023 financial year.

The shared path extends north from McLennan St along the Echuca Rd eastern separator, concluding at Knight St.

The works will include demolition, construction of the concrete shared path, as well as kerb, channel, signage and holding rail reinstatement.

The upgrades are expected to take about three weeks and will not impact traffic movement.

Council has asked residents to take note of traffic directions and thanks them for their patience while the works are undertaken.
