Rochester Men’s Shed opens doors to women for Ladies Day

Heather Watson will be leading Ladies Day at the Rochester Men’s Shed on August 30.

The Rochester Men’s Shed will be hosting Ladies Day on August 30.

The shed doors will be open to any woman who wants something to do and somewhere to do it.

Ladies can choose to help with a group project, work on their own project, learn how to use the various tools or simply enjoy a cuppa and some company.

Long-time shed volunteer Steve Harris said he was excited about the initiative coming together and hoped it could help build engagement with the community.

“We’re going to have a pilot program to see if we can encourage ladies to come to the shed and maybe take on a shed project or their own project,” he said.

“It is a community men’s shed and we like to engage with everybody, not just men. The shed is fantastic for giving people purpose and it’s good for people’s mental health to achieve things.

“We’re really excited and we hope it takes off for the community.”

The Ladies Day runs from 9am to 1pm. Rochester Community House member Heather Watson will be there to run the event.

The project of the day at the shed will be building wooden Christmas trees, which will be displayed at the Rochester Christmas Markets at the end of the year.

For those looking for a different activity, there will be an option to create custom chopping boards or charcuterie boards.

Depending on how the event goes, Ladies Day may become a regular fixture every Friday onwards.
