Rochester Football Netball Club seniors and under-17 thirds got together on Tuesday, March 5, as the Rochester Moon Oval received an overhaul.
Over the past few weeks, the oval has been upgraded with four new floodlights and a digital scoreboard.
The new floodlights will be connected to the grid in the coming days.
Rochester Tigers president Justin Cleary spoke to Campaspe News regarding the new additions to the oval.
“We just had the lights erected, and power will be connected shortly, allowing the players to see clearly when we train during winter,” he said.
“Daylight savings ends at the end of the month, so we’ll need the lights.
“We have a game scheduled under lights in round two, which will be great for the whole community to get behind.”
The new lights are a good 15 metres taller than the older ones, as they stand by one another, with the taller ones having 12 lamps compared to the original three.
It is expected that the newer lights will also be able to resist the relentless corellas known to chew on the wiring.
Once again, the Rochester Tigers are running the ‘My Shout’ initiative for 2024, where people from the region can purchase one of the memberships for a Rochester family who would otherwise be unable to attend football and netball matches.
It’s part of the club’s efforts to ensure that all fans, regardless of their financial position, can barrack for the Tigers.
“We’re running the ‘My Shout’ initiative again,” Mr Cleary said.
“People can go to the Facebook page or our website to find the link; it will get the community together where they can enjoy football or netball.”
