Rochester residents are encouraged to visit Rochester Sports Museum and spend a few minutes checking their heart health with the Shane Warne Legacy Heart Test.

“This is a very special community that not only tries to look after each other but all people in the region far and wide,” Shane Warne Legacy champion Ann Peacock said.

“The placement of the heart testing machine in Rochester is a small step that can hopefully make a great difference.”

Around 62 people have take the Shane Warne Legacy Heart Test since it opened at Rochester Sports Museum last month.

Everyone is encouraged to check their heart health with the machine, which was funded by the Rochester Business Network.

“We are proud to assist in bringing this unit to our town,” Rochester Business Network president Tracie Kyne said.

“The pandemic and recent and floods we have seen many business owners, residents and tourists put their own health aside while their focus is elsewhere.

“This is an opportunity for us to ensure the longevity of our community and its visitors.

“Studies show that 10% of 55-64 year olds in Rochester are living with heart disease, higher than the whole of Campaspe region, which is 7.7%. Good health and mental health go hand in hand.”

REDHS interim chief executive Darren Clark has urged Rochester residents to spend the short amount of time checking their heart health.

“Every four minutes, one Australian suffers a heart attack or stroke. Knowing your risk is the first step to a healthier heart,” he said.

“We encourage members of the Rochester and the surrounding community to take the opportunity to check your heart health via the Shane Warne Legacy Heart test at the Rochester Sports Museum or your local GP.

“This four-minute check is a small step that could make a big difference to you, by detecting and reducing your risk of heart attack and stroke before they happen.”

Rochester Sports Museum is open from 10am to 4pm, Thursday to Sunday.
