The Rotary Club of Numurkah’s annual Art and Craft Exhibition is back for rendition number 43.

Entries have been received from local artists, as well as artists from throughout Victoria and interstate, and the club said the excellent entries were sure to create an outstanding exhibition.

The exhibition will open at Numurkah Town Hall on Friday, March 10, at 7pm. It will continue on Saturday and Sunday, from 10am to 6pm, and will conclude on Monday, from 10am to 4pm.

The exhibition has raised more than $316,000 for local charities in its 43 years, thanks to the generous support of exhibitors, sponsors and the community.

Proceeds from last year’s exhibition went towards the community aged-care bus project, undertaken by the Rotary Club of Numurkah and NCN Health Numurkah.

This year’s proceeds will go towards a defibrillator program.

This year’s show features 20 awards, covering both painting and craft categories, with prize money totalling $10,000.

Successful painter, teacher and Shepparton local Ross Paterson will be the art judge.

Mr Paterson has more than 20 years' experience teaching art in Victorian secondary schools, has held many workshops all across the country, and is a member of art society Twenty Melbourne Painters and the Australian Watercolour Institute.

His work has been recognised with more than 240 major awards.

Numurkah Secondary College textile teacher Claire Reid will be the craft judge.

She has worked in a wide variety of textile mediums, from pattern and dressmaking to lace making.

Rotary district governor Davis McPherson will officially open the exhibition on Friday at 8.30pm.

The opening night will include wine and cheese tasting, as well as live music.

Following the official opening, the judges will announce the award winners.

Patrons are invited to cast their vote for their favourite art or craftwork for the People’s Choice Award.

Admission for opening night is $8, which includes supper; it is $5 for the remainder of the days.

The entry fee includes a copy of the catalogue of the works on display.

Light refreshments will be available throughout the weekend.
