Four Goulburn Valley Rotary clubs came together to cater for the 2023 Biggest Ever Blokes Lunch.

With 1000 people to cook for and 101 tables to be served, the Mooroopna, Shepparton, Shepparton Central and Shepparton South Rotary clubs joined forces.

The floor was split into quarters with each Rotary club in charge of 25 tables and 250 attendees apiece.

David Earle of the Shepparton South Rotary Club organised the catering and Rotary volunteers.

“It's been a good exercise to get everything organised,” Mr Earle said.

“We’re able to cater for this event because of the community support and corporate sponsorship.”

The club was responsible for sourcing food, and although it did have to make some purchases, a large amount of the meals were contributed by local businesses.

For example, The Woolshed donated a large number of pork chops and SPC gave the club assorted charcuterie meats.

In return for their work, the Rotary clubs get volunteer rates for the total amount of hours worked by their members.

Last year, the Shepparton South Rotary Club received $16,000 which it used to support local youth programs.

Mr Earle said the event allowed the local Rotary clubs to come together and involve themselves in the community.

“It’s a team effort and that’s the strength of the Rotary — we can bring people together,” he said.

Money raised through the Biggest Ever Blokes Lunch helps fund the employment of prostate and bowel cancer nurses in the region.
