Shepparton Art Museum exhibition Art in Conflict is soon to leave the foreshores of Victoria Park Lake.

To honour the show curated by the Australian War Memorial, the museum is hosting a three-part series of SAM Talks.

Shepparton local and historian Darius von Güttner will lead audiences through SAM Talks: Art in Conflict.

Dr von Güttner is a research associate at the Gender and Women’s History Research Centre, and as a historian of East Central Europe with an interest in transmission of ideas and global history he’s well versed in analysing artworks through an expert lens in global conflict.

Art in Conflict shows an array of contemporary works from the collection of the Australian War Memorial.

The display opened at SAM before a planned national tour. It shows two recent official war art commissions from artists posted overseas to interpret conflict in their own artistic way — Susan Norrie in Iraq in 2016 and Megan Cope, who was in the Middle East in 2017.

The exhibition will close on Sunday, July 31.

The free, three-part sessions will begin Tuesday, July 19 at 5.30pm for an hour, the next two on July 26 and August 2.
