Shepparton Art Museum has announced an exciting new exhibition program for the 2023 season.

All five floors of the SAM building will be utilised to showcase 17 new exhibitions throughout the year.

A highlight will be Melbourne-based contemporary artist Ash Keating, recognised internationally for his specialised painting techniques.

His solo exhibition Elevation will open on Saturday, March 18 at SAM and feature his signature dripping paint on large-scale landscapes inspired by the Goulburn Valley.

Those that follow the region’s art scene will be delighted to know Sam Jinks’ 2010 sculpture Woman and Child will return to the museum on Saturday, March 18 as part of SAM’s collective show Dance Me to the End of Love.

Creative local talent will be in the spotlight in February with FRESH: GV Top Art & Design 2022 featuring the final folios of 2022’s graduating class of art students.

SAM chief executive Melinda Martin said the selection of works for the 2023 program was based on connection to local stories and histories, celebrating Australian artists and continuing to foster national institutional relationships.

Ms Martin believes locals and visitors will enjoy the wide range of exhibitions.

“The diversity in this year’s offerings with regards to perspective, materiality and method will surely make for a journey of discovery as our visitors explore our galleries over the coming months,” she said.

More information regarding each individual exhibition will be released throughout the year via the SAM website.

Entry and exhibitions are free.

SAM is open six days a week, excluding Tuesdays, from 10am to 4pm on weekdays and 10am to 5pm on weekends.
