Christmas is coming, and Santa will be here in no time.

I believe he has already been booked for an appearance at the Soldiers’ Memorial Gardens - on the corner of Livingstone and Lawrence St - this Sunday.

The Mathoura Events Committee, incorporating Mathoura Easter Fair, will welcome him to the annual carols evening.

You can get into the Christmas spirit with carols by Callum Gleeson of The Voice fame, along with Mathoura Public School students.

There will also be a barbecue and refreshments along with kids games.

The fun kicks off at 6pm Sunday.

You must also remember to take along a chair and a can of mozzie spray.

Attendees are also asked to note that it will be a cash only event.

It only seems a minute since Mathoura Public School students returned to class, or walked the hallowed halls for the first time this year.

However the school’s presentation night is just around the corner, signalling the end of the school year is quite near.

It will be held on Monday, December 16 in the Murray Shire Hall.

Sympathy is extended to the Berryman family on the recent passing of husband and father William Donald Berryman on November 26.

Bill was husband to Elsie and father to Catherine, Jennifer, Dianne, Greg.

Bill has been privately cremated, but friends and families will have the opportunity to gather and remember him at the Timbercutter Riverside Bar on Picnic Point Rd, Mathoura at 2pm this afternoon.

We send best wishes to Betty Murphy in this edition.

Betty is a popular local entity who has been involved in a large range of activities in our town.

The picture denotes only one of her many community roles, as supervisor of the Mathoura Pre-School Kindergarten in August, 1973.

Betty is pictured with two of her charges, Helen Stratton (left) and Renee Whelan.

This old newspaper clipping shows Betty Murphy is one of her many community roles.
