School holiday activities for kids to enjoy

The Gannawarra Library Service staff have a host of activities planned to keep children busy during the school holidays at the Cohuna and Kerang branches.

Activities include:

Build It session at the Cohuna library on September 24 from 2.30pm.

Fly a kite event will be held at the Sir John Gorton library, Kerang, on September 25 and October 1 from 10.30am.

Wooden flying bird session at the Sir John Gorton library, Kerang, on September 26 from 10.30am.

Gardening workshop at the Sir John Gorton library, Kerang, on Thursday, October 3 from 11am.

The Built It and gardening workshop sessions will be held in partnership with Bunnings and a team member will be present to help children complete their projects.

Bookings for all sessions are essential and all children are to be accompanied by an adult.

Domino’s is inviting children into its kitchen

Echuca Domino’s is offering exclusive pizza-making classes during the school holidays.

The whole family can get in on the fun and learn how to make delicious pizzas and sides.

All the mini chefs will take home a Domino’s apron, a chef’s hat and the tasty creations they make on the day.

The classes are only $10 a person and will be held every Wednesday from September 18 to October 9.

Spots are limited, so bookings are essential.

Port of Echuca school holiday fun

Port of Echuca is school holiday-ready, with two weeks of programs for kids and families to choose from.

There will be model boat building sessions for $10 a child done in two sessions on each day, either at 10.30 am or 1.30pm.

There are only 10 spots each session, so get in quick. The model boat building will be held on September 23, September 27, September 30 and October 4.

Local author and cartoonist Murray Ross will also be holding free sessions for children. He will be holding them on September 24, September 26, October 5 and October 6.

Kids will also get a chance to explore the port at night with an adventure torchlight tour for $15 per person and kicking off at 6.30pm. Each child will also get to take home a free gift pack. The adventure torchlight tours will run on September 24, September 26, October 1 and October 3.

There will also be a fun Pirate Day where kids can dress up as a pirate and take a self-guided scavenger hunt to find treasure. The Pirate Day’s will be held on September 25 and October 2.

To finish the school holidays with a bang, there will be a Sweat vs Steam race, where you can choose to either run against the paddle steamer or cruise to the finish line at your own pace. The race will begin at 8am on Sunday, October 6. There will also be a 7.45am paddle steamer cruise available on the PS Pevensey, which will run at a special cruise price of $15 for adults and $9.50 for children.

Spring into Campaspe Regional Libraries

Enjoy the beautiful weather and engage in a variety of exciting activities this spring school holidays.

Campaspe Libraries, along with Colbinabbin, Lockington and Stanhope libraries, will be buzzing with events for everyone.

From footy fun in time for the grand final, to enjoying family pizza and movie time, there’s something for all.

Bookings are essential as places are limited and can be made online or in person, by phoning 5481 2400 or via www.campaspe.vic.gov.au/library

If you need to cancel your booking, please contact the library. Children need to be accompanied by an adult or carer during all activities.

Activities on the list for the two weeks are varied and cater for children of various ages.

Beach balls (ages 5+) — decorate a beach ball to play in the pool or at the beach.

Baby rhyme time — for babies up to 18 months.

Bunnings craft (ages 5+) — always a great session, with thanks to the team from Bunnings Echuca. Make a terracotta garden light.

CJ’s puppets (all ages) — catchy lyrics, audience interaction and quick-to-learn dance moves are all combined to make this exploration of the world of music an informative and entertaining experience.

Coaster sets (ages 5+) — decorate a set of six coasters and assemble a holder for them.

Dog lead hanger (ages 5+) — create a cute leash holder to be the envy of other pet owners.

Floating Earth (ages 5+) — watch the world float by with this fun, gravity-defying craft activity.

Foil art (ages 5+) — decorate a supplied mandala using brightly coloured foil.

Footy friends (ages 5+) — decorate a football player to become your footy mascot.

Footy fun (ages 5+) — decorate your team’s footy jumpers and play some footy games

Leaf insects (ages 5+) — use the wonders of nature to create an insect using leaves.

Lego and games (all ages) — choose a game to play or build an amazing Lego structure. Free play.

Matchbox bugs (ages 7+) — create a bug and design a matchbox home to carry it in.

Pizza and movie (all ages) — family fun in the library with pizza and a movie. Pizza available at $5 a head (adults included). Please book at Echuca library and indicate your favourite pizza. (Internet booking not available.)

Sand art (ages 5+) — brightly coloured sands are used to create a picture. Lots of different outlines to choose from.

Story time — for preschool aged children.

Toddler rhyme time — for children aged up to three.
