Mathoura’s Skate Park will be a hive of activity tomorrow when Murray River Council will host a training session for local enthusiasts.

Conducted by Totem Skateboarding, it might produce some Olympic talents.

The session will be held from 10am to 1pm.

Established in 2010, Totem’s drive is to foster the positive impact skatepark and park facilities can have on a community’s health and wellbeing.

It champions this through free community accessible skateboarding and skate art programs proudly funded by local and state governments, and community youth organisations.

Local residents have been left shocked and horrified by an incident at the Mathoura Pioneer Cemetery over the weekend.

Seven of the graves were badly damaged with tyre marks all over them, broken glass and pieces of tail lights.

Police have attended the scene, collecting evidence.

It is to be hoped that their investigations bear fruit quickly and those responsible are brought to justice.

Now that the football season is over, locals can turn their minds to the Melbourne Cup.

While local activities will not involve horses, there will be plenty of food, fun and activities throughout the day.

The popular event is being run by the Mathoura Hospital Auxiliary, which is renowned for hosting great events.

If you are lucky you may still pick up a ticket.

Give Marie Crack or Sandy Turner a call.

I’m generally happy to see highway signs which encourage motorists to take care when driving.

However, I can’t say I’m at all thrilled with one down the highway towards Moama which says ‘Stop speeding – locals are dying!’.

Mathoura has had to deal with the loss of a large number of family members and friends, young and old, during the current year and we can do without being reminded of the fact when we are out for a drive.

It’s that time of year again – when we get a sleep in, and are totally confused about what time it is for the next week.

Yes, the end of Daylight Saving has rolled around again, so don’t forget to put your clock back by one hour before you go to bed on Saturday night.

Well, perhaps I should have said clocks, or we will have a different time zone in every room.
