Calling all creative thinkers.

Moira Shire Council and Arts for All Cobram are seeking expressions of interest to craft an awe-inspiring sculpture for Thompsons Beach.

This is an opportunity for established artists or groups to craft a medium to large-scale sculpture or sculptures that will mirror the exquisite natural beauty of the river and bushlands and its significance as a hub for leisure and community bonding for residents and visitors.

Moira Shire Council chief executive officer Matthew Morgan said the new commissioned work would complement the improvement projects in progress at the reserve.

“Council has been working to implement the recommendations from the Kennedy Park, Thompsons Beach Masterplan with the enhancement works,” he said.

“Thompsons Beach is a local treasure which receives great visitation from locals and travellers.

“With the redeveloped playground, the site of this new commissioned sculpture will be in a highly visible location, a great opportunity for the successful artist to have their work displayed.”

Mr Morgan said it would be wonderful to witness an original artwork all community members could enjoy that has a significant presence and impact, as well as remaining true to the natural beauty of the area.

Arts for All Cobram president June Wood said the group was eagerly anticipating the newest additional to Moira Shire’s public art scene.

“We’re excited by the prospect of an additional piece of public art in the Cobram area for the local and wider community to enjoy,” Mrs Wood said.

This commissioned work will sit alongside a smaller-scale community artwork, a mosaic trail of local wildlife and fauna, which will soon be delivered by residents.

Expressions of interest close at noon on Friday, May 31.
