Send him down to National Men’s Shed Week

The Men's Shed movement, which began in regional Australia, now boasts more than 2500 sheds across 12 countries, benefiting more than 50,000 Australians annually.

The Australian Men's Shed Association (AMSA) is celebrating Men's Shed Week from September 1-7.

This year’s theme is ‘Send him down to the shed’.

The grassroots movement, which began in regional Australia, now boasts more than 2500 sheds across 12 countries, benefiting more than 50,000 Australians annually.

“We know that when men retire, it's a big change and they are at risk of social isolation which can lead to anxiety and depression, and that can affect physical health too,” AMSA Executive Officer David Helmers said.

“It often takes someone else to recognise this and suggest they do something about it.

“For 30 years Men’s Sheds have been improving the wellbeing and health of men, by building connections over a shared purpose.

“If you know someone who might like to learn some new skills and meet some new mates, send him down to the shed!”

Many sheds are holding open days during Men's Shed Week, welcoming members and the community to celebrate. Interested individuals can find their local shed at www.mensshed.org
