Four Yarrawonga SES members attended a statewide 50-year celebration in Melbourne last Saturday night, which they described as “fantastic”.
Yarrawonga Unit Controller Jason Forber said many former high-ranking officials and volunteer retirees were among the 500-strong audience at the Pullman Hotel complex in Albert Park.
“It was fantastic, an amazing weekend,” Mr Forber said.
“It was a really good opportunity to catch up on SES colleagues from the central area.
“It was so interesting to hear about the changes over the years - from yellow vehicles and amber lights on the roof, which volunteers had to pay for, through to today’s state-of-the-art vehicles, which have government financial contributions.”
Victorian Minister for Emergency Services Vicki Ward outlined the history of the VICSES, which was previously a Civil Defence branch.
Strong SES advocate Jane Bunn from Channel 7 was among other guest speakers.
The Yarrawonga Unit will have its own 50-year celebration later this year.
