The Rotary Club of Seymour recently held its annual student writer awards.

Club youth director Fiona McCarthy said district school students got the opportunity to submit an essay response to a given topic.

“Primary school students are restricted to 300 words and secondary students 500 words,” she said.

“This year’s topic was ‘What was the impact and consequences of the recent major flooding in our community and environment?’”

It was the club’s fifth annual awards.

“All topics are based on an environmental issue,” Ms McCarthy said.
