Victoria’s container deposit scheme started on Wednesday, November 1, but Seymour may be falling behind.
With this initiative, people can return eligible drink cans, bottles and cartons for a 10-cent refund at locations across Victoria.
Reverse vending machines, depots, over-the-counter sites and pop-up refund points will be available across Victoria in the coming months.
Depending on the depot, people can choose whether to swap their cans and bottles for cash, a retail voucher, an electronic refund, or a donation to a local charity.
In Seymour, J & J Equipment Hire was set to start the scheme, but delays have halted its launch.
However, the company said the scheme would be launched as soon as possible.
Visy, the company in charged for the points and refund collection for the scheme confirmed that J & J Equipment hire will be ready to start on Wednesday, November 8.
Neighbouring areas such as Avenel and Kilmore have their own designated refund points.
Victorian Environment Minister Steve Dimopoulos said the scheme would reduce the amount of litter in Victoria by half.
“CDS Vic will maximise the number of cans, bottles and cartons being recycled into new products and keep them out of landfill,” he said.
The scheme is part of the Victorian Government’s $15 million investment to transform the state’s waste and recycling system.
