Seymour’s Recovery Hub answers Love in Action’s call with $500 worth of baby essentials
Seymour Flood Recovery Hub has donated $500 worth of baby goods to Love in Action in other towns over the holidays.
This came after the Recovery Hub was investigating new services that may be available to come onboard the hub.
The Recovery Hub then contacted the Community Recovery Committee, who told them to Love in Action.
Since then, it has become a pick-up and drop-off point for donations sent to different towns around the area.
On Wednesday, December 20, $500 worth of baby goods was presented to Love in Action at the Recovery Hub in Guild St, Seymour.
Hub team manager Kellie Massouras said Love in Action (LiA) mentioned it had a shortage of donations, especially for baby goods, primarily for newborns and premature babies.
The hub team reached out to GIVIT, a platform that guarantees anonymous giving, and it a $500 voucher for Love in Action.
“As the team manager, I went to Kmart with the voucher and purchased the requested goods,” Ms Massouras said.
“It was only baby goods that were provided, as this was the specific request of LiA at the time.”
Love in Action had given her a list of in-demand goods it needed.
“I had the best fun selecting the goods,” Ms Massouras said.
“In the end, the voucher was able to provide a large selection of baby clothes, bottles, toys, wraps or sleeping bags, baby baths, socks, cloth nappies and the essentials new babies require.
“All items were selected with safety, sustainability and quality in mind.”
So far, three families have received goods.
“We and the CRC (Community Recovery Committee) were very touched to hear that this was the first donation LiA have received of brand-new goods,” Ms Massouras said.
“Being able to support our community is why we are all here.
“Working in recovery, we often hear harrowing stories of how hard life is for our neighbours.
“We embrace every opportunity we can to link up opportunities across organisations.”
Seymour does not have a Love in Action branch, but Ms Massouras said it would be ideal to have one.
“The Recovery Hub will be open until June 30, 2025, and for as long as it remains open, (Mitchell Shire) Council will provide an opportunity for all organisations needing identified pick-up points to use the premises,” she said.
“We are hoping to continue to assist LiA with the promotion of their services in the shire, and the CRC will continue to seek opportunities to support the valuable work.”
