This December marks the 50th anniversary of Shepparton’s Carols by Candlelight.
The much-loved annual tradition sees community members descend on the Queen’s Gardens with blankets, pillows and camp chairs to enjoy holiday songs and performances by local artists.
This year, organisers are calling for community members to share their memories from years past to help celebrate the milestone.
Greater Shepparton City Council, in partnership with the Carols by Candlelight Committee, is encouraging the community to submit photos or footage from past events.
Submissions may be included in a special slideshow during this year’s celebration, as well as on social media and in editorial articles.
Maxima La Rosa from council’s Festival and Events office said she was enthusiastic about the project.
“It’s been such a special event for people,” she said.
“We want people to be able to share their memories.”
Community members can submit photos and video of themselves, friends and family at the event, or of past performances.
“This festivity brings our community together,” council director of sustainable development Geraldine Christou said.
“It’s about family, friends and good times, and we would love to see people getting involved in making this 50th event extra special.”
Anyone wishing to contribute can fill out the online submission form or visit Customer Service at the Greater Shepparton City Council offices located at 90 Welsford St, Shepparton.
Submissions close at 4pm on Friday, November 1. For more information, visit the website or call council’s festival and events officer on 5832 9540.
Shepparton’s 50th Carols by Candlelight will take place at the Queen’s Gardens on Sunday, December 22, starting at 6.30pm.
It’s a free event, with food and drinks available for purchase.
