A first for the Goulburn Valley, Shepp Music Week, a celebration of the city’s diversity, providing opportunities for budding and professional creatives alike, is all set for next month.

With a focus on bringing fresh experiences to the region to enrich the live music scene, Shepp Music Week will run from March 7 to 12.

Over the six days, five free workshops, one free live music event and two ticketed live music events will grace the town.

Event curator and JL Productions and Hire director Jamie Lea said the week-long event was an opportunity to learn and connect with like-minded individuals.

“The best part of Shepp Music Week is consolidating the local skills, local networks and expertise, and bringing other guest speakers and workshop facilitators in, really utilising the connections and relationships that many of us in the region have,” she said.

Kicking off the week is a workshop on developing music environments on First Nations land from a panel of First Nations creatives, followed by a Tuesday night intensive session on developing as an artist.

Wednesday night will delve into what it takes to put together a festival with Groovin’ the Moo’s co-ordinator Richard Moffat as a panellist.

The following session will explore finding a creative community with live performances from Ree, Yungkily, Titan, NOMAD and Jacki Tut.

A final workshop run by Isaiah Firebrace aimed at young creatives will take place on Saturday, accompanied by a performance from Yorta Yorta artists.

“As an artist, professional or up and coming, this entire week is about you developing your skills, your connections, and hopefully inspiring the pants off you,” Ms Lea said.

“It’s so things in regional Victoria don’t look so inaccessible and unachievable, because even though we live in regional Victoria, the sky is the limit.”

The week coincides with The Push All-Ages Tour, featuring local voice April Sofra among hit Triple J artists, and is being wrapped up by live RnB music event, NEWPRINT BLOCK 30.

Shepp Music Week is part of the Victorian Government’s Regional Music Development Program, delivered through Creative Victoria and in partnership with Music Victoria and Regional Arts Victoria. It’s curated by Jamie Lea, MAV senior projects advisor Anita Larkin, Drmngnow and Still Here Arts and Culture’s Neil Morris, and Ree Peric.
