Victorians have fully embraced the Container Deposit Scheme, with people returning their cans, bottles and containers in unprecedented numbers.

FOOTT Shepparton is among the top performers across the state, significantly contributing to the collection of over 500 million cans, bottles and containers.

Across regional Victoria, 212 million containers have been collected through the scheme, with Mildura and Shepparton the top two highest depots, with 11.7 million and 9.7 million returns respectively.

Kangaroo Flat, East Bendigo and Ballarat South are also among the top five depots in the state.

“Victorians are taking their recycling to a new level with more than 500 million containers and counting recycled and repurposed in only six months across the state,” Victorian Environment Minister Steve Dimopoulos said.

Containers collected through Victoria’s CDS can be transformed into materials for roads, furniture, construction, textiles and more, creating new economic opportunities and supporting over 600 jobs across the state.

Across the state, Victorians are returning in record numbers, averaging 138 containers per transaction, with CDS Vic processing around 17 million containers statewide each week.

Once the scheme is fully rolled out in August, Victorians will be able to return eligible drink containers to approximately 600 refund points across the state.
