Shepparton Art Museum is levelling up going into winter with two new exhibitions.
Celebrating the beauty of everyday life, SAM is currently debuting Social Ceramics.
Drawing from the museum’s collection of ceramics, the exhibition showcases items that stand central to the shared experience of connection — tea pots, liquor sets, dinnerware — often the centrepiece of a deeper interaction.
SAM exhibitions curator Jessica O’Farrell said the showcase continued the sentiment of previous ceramic show Everyday Australian Design.
Situated in the space between SAM and its adjoining café, it’s set to be a talking point.
“Our hope is that visitors sitting and chatting over a coffee will see pieces from our collection we’ve chosen to highlight and be excited to reflect on the ways these types of ceramic vessels are central to our social interactions and shared conversations,“ Ms O’Farrell said.
The newest artwork to grace the Furphy Family Art Wall on level four is a collaborative work, to be unveiled on Friday, June 3.
Melbourne-based artists Lizzie Boon and Trent Walter have produced LOVE YOUR MOTHER. Inspired by a placard seen at a climate change rally, the piece was created with themes related to respecting the environment, people and place.
The museum is encouraging patrons to view the exhibitions as part of its free SAM Sounds event on Friday, June 3 from 4pm to 7pm, in which local artists Sara Retallick, Minyerra and Nicole Thorne Trio will perform among the exhibitions.
