Shepparton Art Museum has announced the return of its school holiday program, which is to run from September 19 to 30.

The Spring Camp program of arts and crafts activities has been designed to cater to kids of all ages and abilities. It will span several art mediums and incorporate a range of materials and practices both new and familiar.

Organisers hope the program will encourage young people of all ages to slow down, look closer and get creative outside the school term.

Kids from the ages of five to 15 are welcome, with this year’s program including lessons on making wearable art, pottery and kaleidoscope creation, as well as a scavenger hunt.

SAM engagement manager Gabriella Calandro believes the camp will give kids the confidence to further engage in art projects at home.

“(The) SAM Spring Camp gives kids a space to have fun, gain new skills, and make friends while exploring their creative side,” she said.

In related news, SAM will also play host to Dr Kathryn Hendy-Ekers (curriculum manager — visual arts, communication, design and media, Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority), who will be visiting Shepparton these holidays to offer a professional development opportunity for teachers of VCE studio arts and visual arts.

The visit will give teachers the opportunity to explore the new subjects being introduced in VCE visual arts, and methods for how these subjects can be integrated in classroom learning.

Bookings for both the SAM Spring Camp and Dr Hendy-Ekers’s visit are essential. Some of the camp programs are free; however, others will incur a small cost.
