Shepparton Club has drawn its charity raffle for November, and the community’s generosity shows no signs of fizzles or fumes.
This month, the raffle raised an impressive $3785 for We Listen, a suicide loss support group.
We Listen offers monthly meetings for individuals bereaved by suicide, providing a safe and supportive space for members to share their experiences without stigma or judgment.
It aims to help participants process their emotions within a community that understands their lived experiences.
On Friday, November 15, Shepparton Club proudly presented a cheque to Steve ‘Neffy’ Neff, founder of We Listen, who expressed heartfelt gratitude for the community’s generosity.
“It was an outstanding evening and a great night was had by all,” Neffy said.
“There were numerous conversations about mental health and the charity raffle, which provided community members affected by suicide an opportunity to speak, be heard, and talk about their loved ones lost to suicide.”
The funds raised will support the group’s efforts to expand its reach and connect with more individuals in the community.
“This will enable We Listen to expand our monthly suicide support group meetings and suicide prevention community walks to other local areas, including Echuca, Benalla and Cobram, in 2025,” Neffy said.
“The funds will also go towards establishing a youth mental health safe space/drop-in centre that can be utilised by our youth.”
In a statement on its website, Shepparton Club celebrated the success of the event and the opportunity to show appreciation for the hard work and dedication of the volunteers involved in the cause.
“This donation will go a long way in aiding the efforts of the Suicide Support Group in making a positive impact in the lives of those in need,” the club said.
