The Shepparton Jazz Orchestra took the stage at the Aussie Hotel for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began on Sunday, May 1.

The orchestra entertained all afternoon and Shepparton singer Rachael Howard, who has previously toured Europe, was a crowd-pleaser.

Orchestra co-founder Brian Matthews said it had last played at the hotel before Christmas in 2019.

It was meant to return in August 2021 but the event was cancelled as COVID-19 restrictions were reinforced.

He said the orchestra members were “loving” being back.

“COVID was really tough with no music, no nothing,” Mr Matthews said.

“It was tough for musicians ... we’re lucky we’ve all got day jobs.”
