Community Kids Shepparton Early Education Centre has joined Goulburn Valley Water’s Water Only program.

It joins over 70 other kindergartens, schools and workplaces that have also committed to drinking only water on the grounds during school or work hours.

Water Only aims to highlight the health, environmental and financial benefits of choosing water, with one plastic bottle of water costing the same as around 3000 litres from the tap.

Educator Kerri Wisely said the program was great to help teach students about their drink choices.

“By actively incorporating the Water Only program into our educational framework, we’re equipping students with the knowledge and habits for a lifetime of healthy hydration and helping them to understand why choosing water is important,” she said.

“Participating in the Water Only program helps to support students’ learning, engagement and focus to help them achieve their best.”

GVW education officer Lizzi Lewis said helping the next generation understand the importance of drinking water was crucial.

“The aim of the Water Only program is to encourage the community to make smart choices about what they drink and the benefits water has for their overall health,” she said.

“We want to encourage everyone to choose tap water as their drink of choice because our water is some of the best tasting in Victoria, and it’s so much cheaper and better for the environment than bottled drinks.”
