A local leader has been entrusted with a pivotal new role in multicultural affairs.

State Member for Shepparton Kim O’Keeffe has been appointed shadow parliamentary secretary for Regional Multicultural Affairs, a role she was “delighted and honoured” to accept.

“It’s wonderful to have a regional multicultural focus,” she said.

“We are enriched by our multicultural communities and the contributions they make.

“I will continue to support and celebrate our wonderful multicultural communities.”

State Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh commended Ms O’Keeffe’s strong standing with the multicultural community and congratulated her on securing the role, for which he said she was well-suited.

“Kim has long been a champion for the Shepparton community, which is a melting pot of many different cultures, faiths and backgrounds,” he said.

“Multicultural groups add so much vibrancy to our communities, and Kim has been at the forefront of embracing and supporting them – and helping them thrive.

“I look forward to Kim broadening her role across regional Victoria in this much-deserved new appointment.”
