Two powerhouse women are set to appear at an International Women’s Day event in Shepparton.

The Soroptimist International of Shepparton will host a breakfast at Parklake to celebrate the annual occasion, featuring Lisa McKenzie and Sarah Brockhus as guest speakers.

Both women are considered change leaders in the region, and with a long list of accomplishments, their resumes could read like scrolls.

Ms McKenzie co-founded numerous Greater Shepparton organisations, including the Lighthouse Project, Shepparton FoodShare, RiverConnect, Ken Sampson Leadership Trust, and Lift Off Scholarships.

When confronted with a COVID-induced food emergency in Shepparton, she co-founded and led GV Cares.

In just one week, the initiative successfully provided food and essentials to over 2000 households, which accounted for more than 6000 people.

Ms Brockhus is no stranger to persevering through a challenge either.

At the age of 22, the ambitious young woman leased a country hotel.

Without ever having poured a beer, Ms Brockhus ran the successful hotel for four years before returning to her pre-business owner days in real estate.

The skills she retained as head of property management later transferred to her role in Beyond Housing, a local not-for-profit organisation, where she helped vulnerable community members obtain safe and secure long-term housing.

That is when she isn’t volunteering as a firefighter with her local CFA.

With little time on their hands, both women’s contribution to the Shepparton Soroptimist’s International Women’s Day event is a unique opportunity to hear from the inspirational duo.

The Soroptimist International of Shepparton’s International Women’s Day breakfast is on Thursday, March 7, from 7am to 9am at Parklake, 481 Wyndham St, Shepparton.

Light breakfast provided. Tickets are available to purchase at $40 per person, individually or in tables of ten.

Bookings must be made by Friday, March 1, by calling Joy Gardam at 0422 214 954.
