People have looked for any way to stay cool this week, as Shepparton has sweltered through a heatwave.

Temperatures had been in the mid to high 30s since Sunday, until a reprieve on Wednesday.

The hottest day was Boxing Day, with the mercury topping 38.6℃, while it was marginally cooler on Tuesday, with 38℃ recorded in Shepparton.

Wednesday saw cooler weather, with a top temperature of 28℃ at 11.30am.

Plenty of children were still making the most of local swimming pools, before rain in the early afternoon cooled things down, with the temperature dropping to just over 21℃ at 3.45pm.

Looking ahead, a top temperature of 29℃ is forecast for Thursday, while Friday will see 31℃.

Things start to heat up again by Saturday, with 33℃ forecast for New Year’s Eve.

Celebrations that night should see temperatures drop to only 18℃ overnight; however, there is the chance of a thunderstorm or shower in the afternoon.

On New Year’s Day a scorching 36℃ is forecast.
