Shepparton Theatre Arts Group is set to stage its latest production It Takes Two this month.

The group will perform its version of a ‘live’ variety show, treating audiences to behind-the-scenes fun of early Australian variety television.

STAG’s production sees the group continue its involvement with the upcoming Shepparton Festival for the first time since the pandemic.

STAG secretary Nicky Pummeroy said a range of classic duets would be performed during the two shows by the group’s star-studded cast.

“It’s a show full of duets, from the 1960s right through until now, songs like I’ve Got You Babe, Somethin’ Stupid, Mockingbird and Don’t Go Breaking My Heart,” Mrs Pummeroy said.

"There’s a huge cast of well-known Shepparton people including Nigel Parsons, Matt Dowling, Andrew Nicholls, Troy McKindley, Stevie Renee and many more.

“We’ll have little skits from what used to happen during the taping of the shows, it’s a bit of fun for everyone.”

Mrs Pummeroy said the production would also give STAG’s lesser known stars and newbies the opportunity to step into the limelight.

Musical bond: Husband and wife Wayne and Sharon Geraghty will perform together for the first time with STAG, singing the rock classic Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around.

“It’s given lots of people who may not get always get to sing live on stage, who are usually in the chorus or things like that, the chance to shine,” she said.

STAG’S very own ‘Stagtuccio’ dancers will also feature on the night, reminiscent of the Tony Bartuccio dancers of variety shows of old, Mrs Pummeroy said.

It Takes Two will be staged at Riverlinks WestSide in Mooroopna on Saturday, March 25 at 2pm and 7pm.
