For the second time this week, Shepparton welcomed a popular TV show with open arms.
However, instead of Sky News’s Paul Murray, we saw Sunrise’s Sam Mac, who took centre stage presenting the weather from MOVE.
The event was organised by Destination Goulburn Valley and aimed to showcase the region’s beauty and charm to a national audience.
“DGV is really proud to host Sunrise here this morning,” DGV board chair Eugenie Stragalinos said.
“It’s really about promoting the Goulburn Valley, showcasing our beautiful region, and introducing a national audience to the treasures we have in this part of our country.
“Some of us were up at 4am, the ungodly hour.”
Ms Stragalinos said the program gave the region outstanding exposure across the nation.
“We basically covered six live crosses with Sunrise weather, live on air, and wanted to showcase both the internal and external features here at Emerald Bank,” she said.
“We highlighted Milestone (Café), our beautiful windmill, and six businesses within the region, all of whom are members of Destination Goulburn Valley.
“We had Hydie Blooms florist, Olive Grove, Finer Fruits, Humble Harvest, Shepparton Brewery and the Side Hustle.”
Ms Stragalinos said local artist Tank had prepared a gift for soon-to-depart Sunrise co-host David Koch.
She also said the region could see more events such as these, but that only through community support could DGV meet these standards.
“I think if we get the support of the community behind us for Destination Goulburn Valley; we are all about creating the Goulburn Valley as a destination, as a visitor centre,” she said.
“The more support we receive as an organisation, the more we’ll be able to showcase our beautiful Goulburn Valley.”
The event was also a memorable experience for four St Anne’s College students, who were invited as VIP backstage guests.
“It’s exciting to be here. It’s a really good experience,” Year 11 student Taigue Mitchell said.
Year 10 student Christine Smith echoed Taigue’s sentiments.
“It’s kind of exciting, kind of nerve-racking, but it’s a very cool experience, and I’m having fun,” she said.
