For the 16th year, Shepparton’s Voices For Harmony is hosting its annual Harmony Day celebration next week.

This year the event will be held at the University of Melbourne’s Department of Rural Health in Graham St, Shepparton on Tuesday, March 21.

The speakers include University of Melbourne research associate Dr Zubaidah Mohamed Shaburdin, former state Member for Shepparton Jeanette Powell, Health and Community Services Union Victorian state secretary Paul Healey and community leader Lisa McKenzie.

The event will run from 11.30am to 12.30pm, and will be followed by a light lunch.

While the day aims to celebrate Australia’s diversity, the event will focus on gender equality.

“It’s a day of respect for everyone who calls Australia home,” event convenor and Voices of Harmony co-founder Cameron Albanoi said.

“We celebrate Australia’s many successes as a diverse, inclusive and harmonious multicultural society.”

Mr Albanoi added that the day also allowed the community to “re-commit to our common values of respect and goodwill towards our fellow Australians of all backgrounds”.
