Shire seeks input into Anzac Ave plans

Ready for a facelift: Mitchell Shire Council plans to revitalise Anzac Ave in Seymour.

Mitchell Shire Council is seeking community input into its masterplan to revitalise Anzac Ave in Seymour from Station St to Delatite Rd.

Anzac Ave was identified as a priority during community consultation on the Seymour Revitalisation Project.

The plan aims to reinstate an avenue of honour, as well as other improvements to the streetscape.

An avenue of honour was planted in 1917 in respect of the fallen soldiers in World War I.

The trees were removed in the early 1980s when the road was built in its current form.

The plan aims to balance community wishes for a greener streetscape with the functionality of such a busy road.

Council is seeking community input during a consultation period throughout September.

Council officers will be at Seymour Library to discuss the project from 9am to 12pm on Tuesday, September 13, Thursday, September 22, and Thursday, September 29.

Mitchell Shire Mayor Bill Chisholm said getting feedback from the community was a priority for the council.

“The Anzac Ave Masterplan will look to restore an important part of Seymour’s military history while making sure this part of Anzac Ave is suitable for current and future use,” he said.

There will be an additional opportunity for community consultation later in the year when a draft masterplan will be released for consultation.
