Moira Shire Council is inviting the community to have its say on the Public Art Policy.
The policy supports the funding, commissioning, installation and maintenance of the public art on council-owned or managed assets, or public art on private property supported by a council funding stream.
Community input is being sought to better understand the opportunities for improvement to meet community needs for public art across Moira Shire.
The council aims to celebrate the creativity and diversity of the community and by implementing a public art policy hopes to continue to grow a thriving, cultural environment that respects the arts and identity of Moira Shire.
“Our region is surrounded by many local artworks we can be proud of, such as sculptures and murals, which bring us together, make our townships a vibrant space, share local stories, attract visitors and enhance our tourism economy, and spark inspiration in others,” council chair administrator John Tanner said.
“By adopting a Public Art Policy, council will be able to work collaboratively with the community to grow and maintain artwork throughout the region.”
Moira Shire’s creatives, artists and all community members can review the draft policy and leave their feedback on the online engagement platform Moira Matters at www.moiramatters.com.au/public-art-policy or request a copy from any customer service centre.
Community members will also have the opportunity to provide feedback in-person at four information sessions.
