A new short film that will feature in the upcoming Focus on Ability short film festival will be made at the Port of Echuca.

The short film is also supported by Thrive Support and Holistic Ability and will showcase people who happen to have a disability show their talents in a locally produced film.

Titled Loki & Me, the film has been written by Craig Wyhoon and features a talented cast of young actors who live in Echuca-Moama.

One of the young actors is Skye Hope, 10.

The young actress, currently in Year 5, has had a great deal of experience with the rehearsal process.

“I haven’t told my friends about the upcoming film, but I’m excited to show them when it’s released,” Skye said.

“I’m looking forward to being in this short film.

“I have a total of 23 lines in this movie.”

Daniel Holman, 13, is the other key actor in the film.

The teenager has his own YouTube Channel titled Daniel’s Tech Reviews, Phone Collection and Repair.

“I’m very happy to be in this upcoming short film and my family don’t believe I’m going to be in a film,” he said.

But while Daniel is eagerly anticipating being in the short film, he has his sights set on a different career ambition.

“When I’m older, I want to work in a phone shop, repairing phones for customers,” he said.

In addition to writing the script, Mr Wyhoon fills the role as director and spoke of the creative process, with filming set to start on Friday.

“I didn’t consider the writing process challenging, but more creative,” he said.

“Now that I’ve finished the writing process, I realise just how challenging it was.

“I started writing the script over a four-month period, with a total of seven drafts.”

One of the most important roles for the upcoming movie is the costume designer.

Moama Anglican Grammar student Cara Haley has spent the past few months creating costumes for the cast to wear.

“I took on the roles of costume designer, as I have an interest in design, and I may attend NIDA in Sydney after I leave school,” Cara said.

Cara’s mum Kylie Haley worked on the renowned 1980s mini-series All The Rivers Run, which was filmed in Echuca.

“My mum worked on All The Rivers Run as a photographer in 1983 with Sigrid Thornton,” Cara said.

“Working on this film feels like coming full circle as my mum and I have made films at the Port of Echuca.”

Filming will take place from Friday, June 2, to Sunday, June 4.
