Echuca Moama & District Agricultural Show Society is calling on community members to lend a helping hand by volunteering at the Echuca Moama show over November 5 and 6.
The Echuca Moama & District Agricultural Show serves as a source of entertainment for the community by holding pony rides, petting zoos, fireworks displays and competitions for judging such as animals, photography and baking contests.
Competition winners at the show will then compete at the regional finals and subsequently go in the running to compete at the Royal Melbourne Show.
Echuca Moama & District Agricultural Show Society president Allan Mathers said the show had been running since 1876 and he hoped to see it continue for years to come.
“The show has always been a really popular event within the community and we are hoping to build it back up to what it once was,” Mr Mathers said.
“We really want to see this show going for another 100 years, but we really need help from the community to deliver a high quality show.”
Echuca Moama & District Agricultural Show Society vice-president Peter Johns said the pandemic had impacted the amount of people offering to get involved with the show.
“We had two years where we didn’t have a show. When you haven’t got an event on for that long, people don’t talk about it and they forget about the event,” Mr Johns said.
“We’ve also had a lot of new people move to the community over the past two years and they may not even know about the show.”
Organisers have advised about 30 volunteers will be required for the show to run smoothly and successfully.
In previous years, volunteers have helped with face painting, pony rides, assisted with cattle or horses, have supported ticketing and admissions at the front entrance and have worked as stewards in the pavilion.
Mr Mathers said it was not just volunteers that the society is after, but also members and trades who want to promote their business at the event.
“We’re always eager to take on more members within the show society and we’re always open to businesses coming along and running a workshop or a stall that promotes their business as well,” he said.

The show will be held over November 5 and 6 at the Echuca Harness Racing Club showgrounds, enter via Simmie St or McKenzie St.
