Tastes of Rutherglen returns this weekend on March 8 and 9.

The much-anticipated Tastes of Rutherglen festival is back, promising a weekend brimming with fine wines, delectable foods, and engaging activities.

As the Winemakers of Rutherglen prepare to host this vibrant event during the Victorian Labour Day long weekend, the entire region is set to come alive with the spirit of celebration and culinary excellence.

This year's festival is shaping up to be a monumental affair, showcasing the best of Rutherglen's winemaking traditions and innovative culinary practices. With 16 renowned wineries participating, the event offers a unique opportunity for attendees to explore the intricate world of wine, from the vine to the glass.

The festival will officially begin on March 8 with the "A Welcome Wine" event at The Victoria Hotel's Garden Room. Here, guests can indulge in a curated selection of regional treats while mingling with local vintners and fellow wine aficionados. The evening sets the stage for a weekend filled with tasting experiences, masterclasses, and exclusive events that highlight the rich tapestry of Rutherglen's wine culture.

Among the highlights are the masterclasses and special events scheduled throughout the weekend. These include a Traditional Sparkling Masterclass and a Portuguese Varietal Exploration, providing deep dives into specific wine styles and regions. For those seeking a more immersive experience, the Harvest Dinner and the GATHER by KIN event offer exquisite meals paired with outstanding wines, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Adding a unique twist to the festival, the Autumn Graze at Campbells Wines features local talent, including Wahgunyah’s Dave Daly, a paramedic and musician, who will set the ambiance with his acoustic performance. The event promises a relaxing evening where guests can savour wines and vineyard platters while enjoying the picturesque setting.

The father of two says he is looking forward to providing a soundtrack of earthy acoustic sounds to help attendees unwind under the shady oaks at Campbells of Rutherglen to watch the sunset over the Bobbie Burns vineyard.

“I hope my music creates an atmosphere where people can enjoy the stunning surrounds,” revealed Dave, who has worked as a paramedic for more than 15 years.

“I love performing, I enjoy the challenge of getting up in front of others, it’s additive and a place where I feel at home, I’m always looking for new ways to improve and keep my audiences captivated.”

In his downtime, Dave says he loves to sing around the campfire with friends, whilst enjoying a Campbells fortified wine.

“You cannot go wrong with the Rutherglen Muscat, especially on a cool Autumn evening. I also really love the reds from Campbells, but if I had to pick, I would say the Malbec, it’s a lovely drop,” Dave added.

With activities and attractions for everyone, from seasoned wine connoisseurs to casual visitors, the Tastes of Rutherglen festival is set to be a highlight of the region's event calendar.
