The Numurkah Lions Ladies annual high tea is on Sunday, August 4, and you’re invited.

Think buttery scones topped with fluffy cream and sweet jam, sponge cakes and steaming cups of tea — your imagination is the limit.

Once you’ve grabbed some friends and booked a table, the choice is yours.

The hostess will co-ordinate the food, or organise everyone on the table to prepare a plate to bring and share.

The event is not only a chance to catch up over a delicious spread, but also an opportunity to make a contribution to a good cause.

“This is our 19th fundraising high tea. We do this every year for a new charity.” Numurkah Lions Ladies secretary Bernadette Steward said.

This year, the fundraising event will support the non-profit organisation Very Special Kids, which provides care and support to young people living with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

“(We chose this charity because) one of our Lions Ladies, and her granddaughter, uses the service,” Mrs Steward said.

“We wanted to advertise Very Special Kids, and let the community know what options they have if they have kids with special needs, and of course, show our support (to the charity).”

In 2023, the organisation opened the first children’s hospice in Victoria, providing a comfortable and enjoyable home away from home for these children.

Numurkah teenager Charlotte Hall, who will be the guest speaker at the event, was one of the first young people to gain access to the home after doors opened.

Additionally, the organisation’s iconic pink pig money boxes will be for sale, and act as unique table toppers for anybody who wishes to donate on top of their tickets.

Mrs Steward said the club had already received “very great support so far”.
