Small grassfire quickly controlled

Fifteen minutes is all it took for firefighters to douse a grassfire which started at the intersection of Four Post Rd and Greaves Rd in Deniliquin on Sunday.

Sparked at about 11am, and official cause for the blaze is unknown.

The Mid Murray Rural Fire Service said the two most likely causes are a discarded cigarette butt or a vehicle malfunction.

Firefighters from Deniliquin, Hill Plain and Brassi were deployed to tackle the blaze, but the Deni crews had it under control quickly. The other brigades were stood down before they arrived.

The fire burnt about half a hectare of grass alongside the road.
