Girgarre has a population of 563, but that figure swells significantly on market days.
The town’s famed little farmer’s market was held under a cloudless winter sky at the weekend, with shoppers travelling from far and wide to snag themselves some fresh produce and plants.
Stalls featured everything from hand-crafted items to gin tasting, children’s goods to lollies, and tools to garden art, with something to interest everyone.
There was a chook auction on the day with rows of poultry, including hens, roosters and ducks on display in cages for prospective buyers to view before bidding.
Food trucks and a barbecue were on site to cater to hungry shoppers’ taste buds.
The market is just one of the many regular, thriving events the small yet progressive community of Girgarre holds.
It’s held on the second Sunday of each month on the corner of Winter Rd and Station St, directly across from the town’s growing botanic garden, Gargarro, which, taking a wander around after the market, might round out a nice morning for day-trippers.
The next market will be held on Sunday, August 11, from 8.30am to noon.
