Solar farm plan for Moama

A pair of information sessions about a proposed solar farm just outside Moama will be staged today, December 8, with the farm expected to be able to power 2600 homes.

Risen is the renewable energy company behind the proposed development, an international company connected to India, the United States, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Spain and Kazakhstan.

The on-line information sessions are open to the public at noon and 6pm, in the form of Zoom conference calls.

The property is located at Lot 590 Hillside Rd, Moama and is described by the company as a small-scale solar farm and battery project.

A spokesperson for the company said Risen supplied solar panels for residential homes and also worked with solar farms and green hydrogen products.

“We’ve been around for the last three years in Australia.

“We have two farms in Australia, one in West Australia and another in Queensland.

“This is our first venture into New South Wales,” the spokesperson said.

The proposal is to have 11,220 solar panels erected on the 20 hectare property.

Construction is due to start in the middle of next year subject to approvals, with 11,000 megawatt hours expected to be the annual capacity of the solar farm.

A spokesperson said the potential for the solar farm was to supply electricity for the regional areas around Moama.

“This is not just a solar farm, there is a Battery and Energy Storage System (BESS) attached to the proposal.

“We generally manufacture solar panels in Australia. The solar farms are an extension of the business,” the spokesperson said.

Risen is expected to use mostly local resources in the development of the property if given approval to develop the site, including local designers and tradespeople during the initial stages.

There will also be employment for 20 people during the construction period of the project.
