Speeding driver was more than five times the legal alcohol limit, police claim

A driver was allegedly more than five times the legal alcohol limit when he was driving at 178km/h on Thursday, October 26.

State Highway Patrol high risk driving unit stopped the Lexus on the Hume Hwy at Longwood East about 2pm.

Police allege the driver was travelling at 178km/h in a 110km/h zone.

They also allege a breath test returned a reading of 0.284 blood alcohol concentration.

A 42-year-old Geelong man, who was unlicensed, had his car impounded for 30 days and was given an immediate driving ban.

It is expected he will be summonsed to appear at court at a later date.
