Sport, employment and inequality were the three key topics of the 2022 International Day of People with a Disability.

The three subjects fell under the banner of the international theme for the annual event, held in the first week of December, which was the based on the role of innovation in making a more accessible and equitable world.

This year’s theme focused on how assistive technologies could increase accessibility for people with a disability to employment in mainstream society.

Reducing inequality and promoting diversity in the workplace is also an ongoing focus in the disability sector, while sport was being used to showcase how innovation could provide a pathway for inclusion.

Guest speaker: Michelle WIllcox was guest speaker at the disability day event, explaining her experiences growing up with a disability. Assisting Michelle with the presentation was KDHS disability liaison officer Candy Fanning, who played a key role in organising the day with service innovation project worker Kerrie Reardon.
