The daffodils are in full bloom.

Walking around town, many people have full spring flower displays in their front yards.

Having moved to Echuca two and a half years ago to be closer to family, Stephen Andrews is one of these people.

He has taken his dirt patch of a front yard and turned it into an oasis of spring flowering bulbs.

“I have always loved flowering bulbs,” he said.

“I’ve done all of this myself, starting from just a patch of dirt, to the mass of flowering bulbs you see before you.”

Stephen has mass planted daffodils, jonquils and snowdrops, all which are in full bloom as we come into the first day of spring.

He pointed out the mauve hyacinths that were popping up among the daffodils.

“I also have blue hyacinths starting to form in a pot, next to the front door,” he said.

Stephen was proud of the newly forming freesias he was growing in a pot.

“Where I grew up, there was a paddock next to the house that would be full of freesias at this time of year,” he said.

“I just loved the perfume they give off, it is just wonderful.

“Until moving to Echuca, I haven’t been able to grow them before.”

Having recently gone to his first meeting of the Echuca Horticultural Society, Stephen was surprised when he went home with the raffle prize, after purchasing only one ticket.
