With Shepparton’s Spring Car Nationals finally set to rev its engines at Shepparton Showgrounds this weekend, police are asking for the action to stay at the arena.
Shepparton police Senior Sergeant Brad Fisher said additional police were rostered on this weekend.
Officers from Melbourne will also join their Shepparton counterparts to ensure the safety of event attendees and the general public.
“We want to make sure what happens at the event, stays at the event,” he said.
And after three postponements in two years, the weekend’s event is expected to be a big one.
Operations manager Les Adams said the event, which has been “basically sold out” since 2019, was all set to go ahead on Friday at 3pm.
“It’s going to be two days and two nights of high-octane action,” he said.
Despite extra logistics involved in the event’s organisation, including the showgrounds’ drive-through COVID-19 testing sites temporarily being moved to McEwen Reserve, Mr Adams said SpringNats was ready to go.
“Everything’s fallen into place,” he said.
“We’ve been working closely with council to make sure its a COVID-safe family event.”
