St Mel’s Kindergarten in Shepparton is collecting socks to help keep people in need warm this winter.
Early childhood educator Meghan Dodd started the sock drive at the kindergarten last year, collecting 225 pairs of socks for donation to the Salvation Army.
“Socks are one of the most needed donation items of clothing but they’re the least donated,” Ms Dodd said.
“I think people don’t think to donate socks even though they’re cheap and readily available – even at the supermarket.”
As well as helping vulnerable community members, Ms Dodd said there was also a message for the kindergarten students.
“I don’t think kids can be too young to be taught to support their community and be caring towards people that need it,” she said.
“They bring in their donations and they’re very proud that their families have donated to help and they’re helping their community.”
The kindergarten is collecting brand new socks of all sizes for babies, children and adults, with tags still attached.
Socks can be dropped off at St Mel’s Kindergarten or St Mel’s Primary School until May 28.
