St Michael’s Sock It To Poverty

An example of some the socks worn on the day.

St Michael’s students donned their best, brightest and most colourful socks to school last Friday, raising funds for their World Mission Day event.

World Mission Day is usually celebrated on October 20.

As it was a Sunday, St Michael’s deferred the celebration and celebrated with stalls and activities for students to get stuck into.

With the theme of ‘Sock It To Poverty’, students and staff alike were able to show off their style and creativity too.

To participate in the activities, students made a small donation and skipped around enjoying themselves and raising funds for a worthy cause.

Activities included the very popular chocolate toss game.

Students would throw coins at the various chocolates spread out across a table, and if their coin landed on top, they would win the chocolate.

Another activity that grabbed the children's attention was the chance to throw soaking wet sponges at some of the older students, which was a sure way to raise a fair bit of money.

The money raised from the World Mission Day event at St. Michael’s will be going to people in need in Mongolia. A final tally had not been confirmed at the time of going to print yesterday.
