“This work could be done in Melbourne, but now it will be done here.”
Those were the words of CG&C Group director Damion O’Callaghan at the official launch of the company’s new robotic Zeman steel beam assembler and crane at its factory in Cobram.
The launch, which occurred on Friday, May 17, in front of CG&C Group workers, local dignitaries including Moira Shire Council administrator Dr Graeme Emonson, and company clients, marked a milestone for both the company and Cobram with hopes the new machine will create an economic boom for the region.
The state-of-the-art machinery creates steel beams modified to a client’s exact specifications in a much faster time frame than was previously possible.
These steel beams created would then be used for pivotal infrastructure endeavours, including the construction of railways, hospitals and schools.
CG&C Group already has experience in large infrastructure projects, including working on Shepparton GV hospital and the Shepparton rail line upgrades as well as projects in Melbourne.
Mr O’Callaghan said the new machine is the start of a new chapter for the company.
“It is exciting, it is good for our business to be able to complete more work efficiently,” he said.
Though unveiled in May, the acquisition of the assembler is a long time coming, having been ordered from Austria 18 months ago.
According to Mr O’Callaghan, the assembler arrived in Cobram in January and started operating in February.
Mr O’Callaghan said the new machine is a win for the local community as the company plans to reinvest in the region.
“We want to continue to be a great business in regional Victoria,” he said.
“We want to be great for the local community, including assisting in local apprenticeships, and cadetship sponsorships.”
