After two long years, the Echuca-Moama Family History Group and Friends of Old Moama will once again open the Old Telegraph Station and River Captain’s Cottage to the public.
The two groups will be hosting an open day for people to browse the two historic buildings and to explore what both groups do.
Family history group secretary John Howe said they hoped to attract people through the open day.
“We want to publicise that we’re here and people can come,” he said.
“We’ve got a lot of records here that you can’t get anywhere else because they’re only local to here.
“We can help [people] with their family history research, not only locally but we can do research for anyone in Australia or even overseas.”
The two buildings were badly affected during the 2022 floods and had been closed to the public since.
After the completion of all necessary checks to ensure the buildings’ safety, the two groups hope the community will take advantage of the services they provide.
There will be a guided tour of the River Captain’s Cottage, as well as a display of local artwork telling the story of the area.
Guests can also choose to delve into their family history with one of the expert researchers.
A barbecue and Devonshire tea will be available on the day for attendees.
The Open Day is on Saturday, November 2, from 11am to 3pm at the Old Telegraph Station and River Captain’s Cottage, Chanter St, Moama.
