Strathbogie Shire celebrates Australia Day

Fun day out: Zoe Hodor, 5, from Sunbury was decked out in Australian flags at the Nagambie celebrations.

Strathbogie Shire residents and community groups have been recognised in this year’s Australia Day awards.

Strathbogie Shire Mayor Laura Binks said the awards recognised those in our community going above and beyond.

Awards were presented across the shire, with ceremonies held in Avenel, Nagambie and Euroa.

The winners of the local awards were:

Organisation of the Year

  • Avenel: Avenel Cemetery Trust
  • Euroa: SES Euroa Unit
  • Nagambie: Nagambie Cemetery Trust

Junior Citizen of the Year

  • Avenel: Lilli Fowles and Griffin Boote
  • Nagambie: Brodie Miller

Young Citizen of the Year

  • Euroa: Jasmine Raleigh

Citizen of the Year

  • Avenel: Anne Douglas and John Thomson

Event of the Year

  • Avenel: Granite Hills Walks
  • Nagambie: Nagambie Carols

Senior Citizen of the Year

  • Avenel: Jim and Winifred Peart
  • Euroa: Bob and Judy Holloway
  • Nagambie: Helen Heathcote

  • Citizen of the Year: Anne Douglas, Avenel
  • Junior Citizen of the Year: Brodie Miller, Nagambie
  • Young Citizen of the Year: Jasmine Raleigh, Euroa
