Strathbogie Shire Council undertaking road assessments

Buckle up: Strathbogie Shire Mayor Laura Binks taking Strathbogie Shire Council Senior Engineer Jeeva Ali to review and assess road damage from recent flooding.

Strathbogie Shire Council engineers are assessing damage to the shire’s roads after the recent flood event.

Strathbogie Shire has more than 2210km of roads: 1465km unsealed and 748km sealed, plus 521 bridges and culverts to maintain.

Strathbogie Shire Mayor Laura Binks said the assessments and repairs would take some time to complete so drivers must continue to drive carefully.

“We know poor road conditions are frustrating for our community... but there is no quick fix,” Cr Binks said.

Cr Binks said the assessment process could take up to three months to complete, depending on conditions.

“The repairs needed on our road network (are) significant and we will need funding from the state and federal governments,” she said.

“We’ve already started advocating for this and will continue to fight strongly for support.

“In October, we moved a motion at the Municipal Association of Victoria’s State Council Meeting to lead a state-wide advocacy campaign calling on the Victorian Government to increase funding for road maintenance.”
